Cybersecurity expert talks about ongoing cyber threats

Matt Walker, cyber security consultant gave a presentation on cyber threats and how our community can protect against it.

Matt has served for more than 20 years in multiple positions in Cyber Security and Education, ranging from director of the Network Training Center and a curriculum lead/senior instructor for Cisco Networking Academy on Ramstein AB, Germany, to instructor supervisor and senior instructor at Dynetics, Inc., in Huntsville, Alabama, providing on-site certification-awarding classes for (ISC)2, Cisco, and CompTIA. He has written and contributed to numerous technical training books for NASA, Air Education and Training Command, the U.S. Air Force, and commercially with the McGraw Hill CEH All In One and continues to train and write certification and college-level IT and IA security courses. He is currently advising NASA on security operations improvement for their Consolidated Network Operations Center and teaches classes at Troy University.

Club met at Pioneer Museum of Alabama hosting Ed and Carly Gannon, owner of Vintage Olive

Club met on Tuesday, May 3 at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama when Barbara Tatom hosted Ed and Carly Gannon as our guest speakers. Ed and Carly own The Vintage Olive in Montgomery, a specialty store that sells infused olive oils, balsamic vinegars, gluten free pastas, spices, olives and more. This was a great opportunity for the cooks among us to learn about the benefits of these products.  They had some sample kits available for purchase.

Talk on engaging women at Tutwiler Prison in vegetable gardening

Dr. Sharon Everhardt, Chair of the Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice Department at Troy University, and Dr. Stephen Carmody, an Archaeology professor at TROY, spoke to the Troy Rotary Club on April 26th regarding an innovative program to engage women at Tutwiler Prison in vegetable gardening.  This grant-supported project is receiving national attention as an effective program for incarcerated women.

Rotary Club of Troy donates to the Pike County Child Advocacy Center, The director speaks on dealing with child abuse

The Troy Rotary Club hosted Ms. Kaley Green, the director of the Pike County Child Advocacy Center at

the April 19th Rotary Club meeting.  Ms. Green gave a presentation on the role of the Child Advocacy Center in serving a four-county region in helping families, law enforcement and the courts deal with instances of child abuse.

Jennifer Ventress, a former hospital nurse and school health professional, spoke to the Troy Rotary Club

Troy native, Jennifer Ventress, a former hospital nurse and school health professional, spoke to the Troy Rotary Club on April 12.  Jennifer, who is a former member of the Troy Rotary Club, is a candidate for the position of Pike County Coroner.

The Sheriff’s Departments are certified in providing education and advice to local schoolchildren regarding the health hazards of vaping, alcohol use, and the hazards associated with abusing drugs.
